The Queen’s Birthday — Part 2

Royal Letter

Emily eyed the small, petal-pink envelope before taking it from Ethan’s hand. She ran her fingertips over the paper. It was soft and velvety. “What is it?” she asked.

Ethan shrugged. “I don’t know. It’s got your name on it.”

Turning the envelope over, her mouth fell open when she saw the seal. It was a distinct crest featuring a griffin, a unicorn, and a crown.

“Good gosh golly, Ethan,” Emily whispered as her heart pounded with excitement. “This is the royal crest.”

Ethan raised his brows, with anticipation in his eyes. “Well? Open it. Let’s see what’s inside.”

Emily giggled. In her mind, she could hear her mother scolding her for celebrating too early. But she couldn’t help it. This was all too exciting.

Emily popped open the seal and drew out the letter. “The note is pink too.” Holding it up to her nose, she took a deep breath and closed her eyes to savor the scent. “Smells like roses.”

“Well?” Ethan said. “Are you going to read it or just sniff at it all day?”

Emily giggled again, then read the letter aloud:
